Revealing The Working Title For My Novel
Updated: Oct 9, 2020
This past April I participated in CampNaNoWriMo for the first time, start to finish, and started my current project saved under "Journey to the Throne: A Sorrow Story".
Journey to the Throne is a new adult urban fantasy series full of betrayal, heartache, violence, and life-altering decisions for Devi Sorrow.
Now, I'm not saying this is the name of the first book in the series, it's just a working title and me being me, I'll probably be changing it no sooner you all know about it.
I can't say I had this big "ah-ha" moment when I got this idea for the story so much as I just knew it was time to start writing it.
When I get ideas for my stories, they don't come in some linear way -- which is why I can't plan them-- they come as bits and pieces of scenes and moments that need to happen and I find a way to piece them together.
This idea wasn't much different.
It started with a simple question: Why would Devi work for a demon? Then there was a list of questions that followed.
Because I was starting this in April, at the time I did try to plan out the answers I had and got what I usually did which is annoyed and a story that felt very different from the one that I really wanted to tell.
(Though I plan on going back to that story soon).
I almost want to say this was an idea I had a hard time nailing down but if I'm being honest, it's one that's been marinating in the back of my mind for a while, and April (and quarantine) presented the perfect chance to get started.
Since then, I'm a bit over forty thousand words deep into the story and am currently quick editing it with the help of my sideline and will (possibly) be back to writing it for NaNoWriMo next month.
Whether I participate in NaNoWriMo this year nor not, I'm looking forward to diving back into the writing aspect of the story in the next few weeks and seeing what else is coming for Devi Sorrow.
